Gauteng Department of e-Government hands over a computer lab to East Rand School of Arts
By Admin Writer24 July 2023
In celebrating Mandela Day on 18 July 2018, the Gauteng Department of e-Government together with EOH, Altron, FNB, and MetroWired handed over a computer lab to Eastrand School of Arts. The school is based in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.
The refurbishment of the computer lab comes after the department was made aware of the non-functioning of the lab due to a lack of resources such as furniture and computers stolen from the school, during its visit to the school last year in December.
The computer lab has been refurbished with new furniture, 30 new laptops, and the department’s free WIFI called Gauteng Provincial Network. Head of the Department (HOD) Mr. Cyril Baloyi indicated that during the department’s last visit to the school in 2022, the department made a commitment to restore the lab by providing the needed computers and furniture.
“The last time we visited the school, we were made aware of some of the challenges the school is facing, most importantly the need to refurbish the computer lab by restoring the furniture and computers which were unfortunately stolen. Today we have come to fulfill the promise”, said HOD Baloyi.
From the school’s representative, President of the learners Donovan Dhlamini thanked the department for handing over the lab.
“On behalf of the learners, I would like to thank the Department of e-Government for gifting us with a computer lab. The lab will greatly assist us in our learning path, especially looking at that we are in the Fourth Industrial Revolution where ICT skills are needed” said Donovan Dhlamini.
On this day, the department also conducted a Soup Drive at GaMogale Old Age Home in Orient Hills, Magaliesburg where soup and bread were supplied to the elderly in need.
The department’s MEC Mzi Khumalo also visited the Wheatlands Community Care For The Elderly in Randfontein, where he donated blankets and other essentials to the elderly.
